ARE YOU READY FOR A JOB INDIETETIC TECHNOLOGY: FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT? Associate in Applied Science (AAS)
The Dietetic Technology program offers associate degrees in nutrition care and food service management. Students enrolled in the food service management option will take a variety of courses in food and nutrition science, food service systems management, communication and education. The nutrition care option includes a variety of courses in food and nutrition sciences, foodservice systems management, communication and education. Persons interested in dietetic technology should possess good people skills and an interest in health.
Graduates in the food service management option plan menus, supervise food production and service, maintain standards of sanitation and safety, assist in hiring, training and evaluating food service staff, and procure food, supplies and equipment. The nutrition care option offers graduates the opportunity to screen clients for nutritional deficiencies, interview and counsel clients, modify meal plans for different disease states, develop teaching materials, perform nutritional assessments, develop nutrition care plans and chart in medical records.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the job outlook for individuals in the dietician and nutritionist fields is expected to grow much faster than average through 2014. An increased emphasis on disease prevention through improved dietary habits and a growing and aging population are major factors of the increased demand.
Associate in Applied Science Degree in Dietetic Technology: Food Service Management Option is a 70-to 71-credit-hour program for persons wishing to become eligible to sit for the national registration exam to become credentialed as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR).
Dietetic Technology – Food Service Management is an option of the Dietetic Technology program.
