Students earn an Associate in Applied Science or Certificate of Proficiency in Cybersecurity upon graduation.

The program prepares you for entry-level information assurance/security technician/practitioners positions that support planning, implementing, upgrading and monitoring security measures that protect computer networks and information systems.

Through theory and extensive hands-on activities, you will develop skills to ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. You also will develop skills to respond to computer security breaches and viruses.

Courses cover computer architecture, programming, and systems analysis; networking; cryptography; security system design; applicable law and regulations; risk assessment and policy analysis; contingency planning; user access issues; investigation techniques; and troubleshooting.

To ensure the curriculum is current, Forest Park Information Systems department staff members are active members in CyberWatch Center, CyberWatch West, CSEC, and Community College Cybersecurity Summit Conferences.

Pre-employment background screening is required for anyone seeking employment in the cybersecurity field.

To be successful, you should have a strong foundation in computer hardware/software troubleshooting skills, equivalent to the CompTIA A+ certification.

Note:  Cybersecurity employment typically requires a bachelor’s degree and/or employee working toward this goal.

Classes are taught by seasoned instructors. Labs are custom-built to provide an open environment for extensive hands-on experiences. Some online courses are available, as well as intensive classroom-based, hands-on skill development. With evening classes, this program is specially geared for students with full-time jobs.

Once you earn your Cybersecurity Certificate of Proficiency, all of the credits apply toward the Cybersecurity AAS.
